CountBlank Formula Of Excel
Hello everybody and welcome to excel made easy, this is your excel guru and today with a new formula called count blank. Well as the name suggests count blank counts the blank cells in a given range.
A specified cell, a single column over here what u see a single place this, this is called cell, a collection of cells is called a column sorry a range this is a range so what count blank does is that it finds out the count of empty or blank cells in a given range. Like for example I have taken example here of first names Alan, Bob, Carol, Alan has come again, Bob has come again and oh my god even Carol is back. These are repeat entries. Last name is Jones, Williams and Carol seems to have lost her last name. Alan is again Jones, Bob is again Williams and Carol has found her last name as Davis. These are their roll numbers. 23 and Bob Williams is actually using abusive language over here it seems. So why I have given these numbers alphabets and these symbols over here because I would like tell that Count blank doesn’t differentiate between numbers alphabets and symbols it would give you the count of blank cells no matter what is contained in the adjacent cells or in the range.
Use the COUNTBLANK function, one of the Statistical functions, to count the number of empty cells in a range of cells.
The COUNTBLANK function syntax has the following arguments:
- Range Required. The range from which you want to count the blank cells.
Cells with formulas that return “” (empty text) are also counted. Cells with zero values are not counted.
Copy the example data in the following table, and paste it in cell A1 of a new Excel worksheet.
||Counts empty cells in the range above.
Note: Copying from some browsers may add an apostrophe to the beginning of the formula when it’s pasted in Excel. If the formula does not show a result, select that cell, press F2, delete the apostrophe, and then press Enter.
It’s very simple to use this formula. How you use it, you just press the is equal to button and type in c o u n t b l a n k and it says range it is highlighted over here see so we select the range and we close the bracket and press enter and the answer is zero because there is no cell that is blank in this range. However if you do it over here. I will show you how to do this in a different manner also we click on formulas we click on insert function then we type count bl a n k blank and here it goes, let’s see what does Bill Gates have to say on this counts the number of empty cells in a specified range of cells maybe exactly that’s what I said. So we select the range over here I’m using Shift and the arrow keys I press enter and here is the result one cell is blank, the same goes over here we can copy it right click copy, come over here. We right click, we click on copy Sorry what is happening. We right click it copy and we come over here, we right click and click on paste. So you pasted your formula over here. So only one was blank so if I delete this, it has become two. Isn’t it cool to use. Yes, it is. It helps you lot in so many ways.
